Exploring with Ink & Watercolor

FullSizeRender.jpg

I've had a little more free time lately to experiment with some of my favorite supplies! Last night, I created a few colorful, abstract studies. I built up layers of washes using  Acrylics, Watercolor, &  India Ink. Each act a little different of the paper. I may create a blog soon going more into detail with what you can achieve with each!

My Favorite Supplies:
Golden High Flow Acrylics
Dr. Martin Bombay India Ink
White Goauche (or watered-down acyrlic)
Sumi Ink Brushes
Toothbrushes (for splatter!)
Windsor Newton Watercolor Pan Set

I painted these on Precut 5X7 Watercolor Paper..that way they're all set to be framed! & I also enjoy working on a smaller size to experiment..that way I can work on three pieces at once and not get bored while allowing the others to dry.

I also experimented with adding some gel bead texture..that gave an interesting texture.

You can also achieve interesting effects when splattering Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl 91%) on the wet paint!  After (patiently...) allowing the pieces to dry, I sometimes splatter white paint and add details with iridescent colors for a cosmic look.

Carie's Stories (Colored)

So I finally got around to adding color to my illustration titled Carie's Stories! The illustration depicts my sister, Carie surrounded by imagery of her favorite stories. From left to right...Ramona Flowers (Scott Pilgrim), Howl's Moving Castle, Airship (Castle In the Sky), The Shire (The Hobbit), Hogwarts(Harry Potter), Nobody Owens (The Graveyard Book), Dany's Dragon Eggs (Game of Thrones), Yuki & Kyo (Fruits Basket), Kazul (Dealing with Dragons). Everything is surrounded by the Two Trees of Valinor (The Silmarillion).
