Exploring with Ink & Watercolor

FullSizeRender.jpg

I've had a little more free time lately to experiment with some of my favorite supplies! Last night, I created a few colorful, abstract studies. I built up layers of washes using  Acrylics, Watercolor, &  India Ink. Each act a little different of the paper. I may create a blog soon going more into detail with what you can achieve with each!

My Favorite Supplies:
Golden High Flow Acrylics
Dr. Martin Bombay India Ink
White Goauche (or watered-down acyrlic)
Sumi Ink Brushes
Toothbrushes (for splatter!)
Windsor Newton Watercolor Pan Set

I painted these on Precut 5X7 Watercolor Paper..that way they're all set to be framed! & I also enjoy working on a smaller size to experiment..that way I can work on three pieces at once and not get bored while allowing the others to dry.

I also experimented with adding some gel bead texture..that gave an interesting texture.

You can also achieve interesting effects when splattering Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl 91%) on the wet paint!  After (patiently...) allowing the pieces to dry, I sometimes splatter white paint and add details with iridescent colors for a cosmic look.

The Frogs of Tatnall Square Park

Last winter, I was asked to be take part in a book project titled "The Frogs of Tatnall Square Park"  written by John Carter.  I was selected as one of several local artists to create an illustration with the goal of raising money for our park! I chose to illustrate verse 12:

"Morgan was pleased with the things that she witnessed Children laughed and played on the playground equipment There was even a train called the Tom Thumb It didn't last very long but filled the park with fun"

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to create an illustration for a board game called

The Guardians: Explore!

It's being kickstarted right now! Once it's funded, I will be able to create more artwork for it! Here is the link: http://kck.st/1xua3yK

sketch, sketch, sketch

I have been pretty busy with illustrating "Howie" but I still sketch a lot in the evening during my free time. Sketching and drawing are probably my favorite part of the artistic process...I'm not sure exactly what it is..maybe it's how you can see the progress and how the artist builds up the lines. I love looking through my old sketchbooks and other artists as well.  I always thought it would be cool to have a collaborative art show or publish a book and showcased sketchbooks of many artists. Alright, well here are my sketches over the past few weeks! Hope you enjoy! avatar characterstudy cutesy downtonabbey princessball profiles rap roofopstudy  whuttsadgirl

Doodlers Anonymous Coloring Book Submission

Doodlers Anonymous Coloring Book Submission Here is my submissions for Doodle's Anonymous' annual coloring book they create each year. Only around 60 artists are chosen and I hope I am one of them! It was a lot of fun working on this project...I was struggling at first because I kept trying to sketch something out..I then decided to just start "doodling" and this is what came out! :)
